Bangle Bracelets
Bangles, Brooches, and Bracelets: Which to Choose
By Jake Reacher
Bangles, brooches and bracelets are all classic jewellery pieces that work well with many different looks. Whilst all three are great accessories, some work better with certain styles than others. Here is a guide on when to wear bangles, when to wear brooches and when to wear bracelets.
Bangles
Bangles are a great choice if you want to make a statement. Their chunky look ensures that they'll really get noticed and stand out against a bold outfit. If you're a fan of incorporating bright colours into your look then bangles are a good way to go as they can often be found in neon and tropical colours.
When wearing an outfit with lots of bold print a bangle is a good choice as it won't get lost against the busyness of your outfit. If you're a fan of patterns and prints then you can often find bangles with all sorts of floral and geometric designs. Aztec and tribal patterns look particularly good on bangles.
In general, bangles look best on slim wrists. This is because they're meant to dangle and hang loosely and there should be plenty of space between the bangle and wrist. If you have a chunkier frame then bracelets and brooches are a better option.
Brooches
Brooches have been worn for centuries and continue to be an accessory favourite. Brooches are ideal for brightening up and adding interest to plain coats, cardigans and jumpers.
Almost anything goes as far as brooches are concerned. You could go for a cameo brooch or a floral brooch, an insect brooch or a brooch in the shape of an animal. Brooches can be plain gold or silver, or they can incorporate different coloured crystals and jewels. There are often trends for brooches so keep an eye out in magazines and on blogs to see what type of brooch is hot at the moment. Recently feather brooches were a popular look fore men, whilst flower brooches were a hit trend for women.
You can be adventurous with brooches and wear them in places other than your lapel. You could stick a brooch or two on your bag, or use a brooch to fasten a scarf in place. A brooch can be attached to a chain to make a necklace or it can be worn as extra detail on a hat.
Bracelets
Bracelets are great for a dressed up look. A pearl or diamond bracelet (real or fake) will add instant sophistication and glamour to any outfit. A single gold chain bracelet with a small pendent is right on trend at the moment.
There are lots of bracelet options if you're looking for a more casual style. Beaded bracelets can be fun and funky and fit in well with an ethnic or tribal look. Plastic bracelets are sometimes on trend and they can be picked up cheaply so you can make a real statement by wearing lots on your arm at once. Be bold and go for lots of different colours.
Jake Reacher thinks that boot cut jeans is on trend and is going to look for some in Matalan.
